Silver Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expedition
It was the turn of the Silver Duke of Edinburgh groups to complete their practice expedition over the weekend.
The weather certainly made for a challenging series of walks, especially so on the first day. Eager to start early on Saturday morning, students set off on their first extended walk of the weekend...soon after the rain began, and continued with very few breaks, until around 7pm which tested the students’ mental fortitude in pushing on through these conditions. That evening, when each group had successfully navigated their way back to camp through the damp conditions, students ate a good dinner. Thereafter, a game of Frisbee ensued with pupils and staff joining in. Sunday provided excellent walking conditions and the groups navigated through three checkpoints to the finish.
All of the students conducted themselves with the utmost commitment and dedication throughout the expedition. Teamwork on the hikes was excellent and ensured everybody was well supported. With targets in mind for the next assessed expedition, students worked well at polishing their map and compass reading skills.
Well done to all who took part in the practice expedition and thank you to Mr Gibbons and the staff who assisted over the weekend.
