Exam Results and School Performance

Result Summary 2023

Coombe Girls’ Results Day for Year 11s

This morning, our attention turned to our Year 11 students, many of whom were in school to receive their exam results. We are delighted with their performance, emulating those achieved by our Year 13 students last week and in light of the similar pandemic disruption they have faced.

Once more, our students have shown remarkable resilience, commitment and perseverance which is reflected in the grades they have achieved.

Ms Emily Barns, Headteacher, said: “We are immensely proud of this cohort and their positive approach to learning, their care for one another and their preparedness to adapt, embrace challenge and ready themselves for a world of opportunity.”

She continued: “With the national policy decision to return marking to pre-pandemic levels - and overall results across the country lower - our Year 11 performance is all the more impressive. We thank families, and of course our staff for the hard work, dedication and diligence in supporting this year group. We now look forward to welcoming students to Coombe Sixth Form.”

The school is especially proud of the progress that our students have made this year. We look forward to continuing this focus, using our skills and expertise, to support our incoming Year 11s and 10s through their examination journey.

Result Summary 2022

We are delighted with the results received by our Year 11 students this morning, emulating those achieved by our sixth form students last week.

It is excellent that the resilience, commitment and perseverance shown by this group of young people is reflected in the grades they received this morning, exceeding grades achieved in the last set of externally marked exams. Our provisional progress score suggests that on average students achieved more than three-quarters of a grade higher than their peers nationally, showing the great progress students have made with us in the last five years. This set of results are all the more impressive coming after two and a half years of disrupted learning and are testament to the hard work of staff and students and the support of parents and carers.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students for their approach to learning, their care for each other and their willingness to embrace a world of opportunity.

I am so pleased that their hard work has resulted in excellent grades for students, enabling so many of them to join us in our fantastic sixth form. I thank the dedicated and skilled staff at the school for their commitment to and encouragement of all our students, as well as parents and carers for their continued support for the school.

It has been great to see them all here in person at the Clarence Avenue site today (albeit a slightly different look to the setting in terms of the self-distancing guidelines) enrolling into the Sixth Form as our new Year 12 cohort and embarking on their final two years at Coombe maintaining the strong tradition of progression.

The atmosphere has been one of positivity and delight as they see each other and their teachers again after a break of 5 months.

It is fantastic to hear them chat excitedly about their grades and Level 3 subject choices from the wide range of 34 courses on offer spanning every area of the curriculum. It will be no time before they will be following in the footsteps of their Year 13 predecessors who are about to start on some exceptional university degree courses and apprenticeships. We look forward to sharing our new Year 12 cohort’s post 16 journey with them over the next two years.
