Results Summary

Our 2018 examination results were again exceptional and have broken all records!

GCSE

Over one third of all GCSE entries have been graded 7-9 in the new government threshold (equivalent to A*-A grades). The new national numerical grading system allows for the highest achievers to be awarded a grade 9 which places them in the very top national attainment band.

Coombe Girls’ School has maintained its exceptionally high standards of achievement despite the ongoing changes to subject specifications from exam boards.

An impressive 56% of Coombe students achieved the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), a high threshold performance measurement set out by the government, which is double that of the national average.

Reflecting the trends of our results at A Level, Coombe Girls’ students have displayed resilience and commitment and have performed highly across all subject areas. The girls have excelled in not only the traditional subjects but also in the STEM areas, such as Maths and Science, in which women are usually under-represented.

Among a whole host of high achievers, notable commendation goes to Lucy Ferguson who has achieved a fantastic result of 10 grade 9s,1A*and 1 A; Anna Lappin gained an outstanding 9 grade 9s,1A*, 1A and1 grade 7. Other notable successes were from Annalise Spahr, Katherine Williamson and Adela Fernandez with each gaining 6 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s 2 A*s and 1 A.

Coombe’s upward success of its students is due to its balanced and academic curriculum, which has been firmly maintained, despite significant exam board changes.

Today’s GCSE results show evidence of our girls showing bravery in their choices, being bolder in their studies and resilient to whatever change is thrown at them. Each student continues to significantly achieve well above average progress from their secondary school starting points giving high levels of value added to every student

Coombe Sixth Form is delighted to report another superb year of examination success at both A level & Level 3 vocational BTEC.

The 2018 Year 13 students have continued the Sixth Form’s fantastic academic tradition despite the challenge of the new specifications and more challenging standards. Notable successes go to Suzie Azim with 2 A*s and 2 A grades who is heading to Oxford University to read Law. Farida Ben-Younis with 2 A*s and 3 A grades will be studying Maths and Modern languages at UCL. Thomas Jacques is embarking on a Law degree at Surrey University after achieving A*, 2As and B grades, Eliza Wade will be studying Medicine at Southampton. Anna Cole gained 2A*s and 2 A grades to secure her place to study International Relations at King’s College London. David Allen will be studying an Automotive Engineering degree at Surrey University after gaining a fantastic A*, 2As and B grades. This is just a small snapshot of the remarkable grades our students have achieved and what their next adventure will be.

The dedication of the students, staff and their families has resulted in the highest ever proportion of A*- C grades with a third of all entries graded A* or A overall and an array of Coombe graduates achieving these highest grades in each of their A Level subjects as well as the Applied Science BTEC course.

Each year, Coombe Sixth Formers achieve consistently outstanding results across all subjects and we couldn’t be more proud of them.
