This summer term has kicked off in earnest with some remarkable political events at both schools. We enjoyed hearing the debates between the candidates for Kingston & Surbiton which took place at Coombe Boys’ School chaired by James Giles in Year 10 in the first week back and have since been impressed by speeches and answers to our Sixth Formers’ challenging and incisive questions at Coombe Girls’ School by three of the candidates for Richmond Park & North Kingston. General Election fever will continue at both schools this week as we launch the CE (Coombe Election) 2015!
It is now countdown to the public examinations for our older students and we wish them all the very best of luck over the coming months. Our advice to all continues to be that they should pace themselves whilst remaining fully focussed and positive during this challenging period but remember that the staff are here to guide and support whenever needed. We are once again confident of their success this summer which will open so many doors and opportunities for them in the future and wish them all the very best of luck.
I was immensely proud to receive notification over the Easter break that Coombe had again been awarded outstanding educational outcomes awards for the GCSE results in 2014. We were congratulated at Coombe Girls’ for exceptional attainment and progress, being in the top 10% of schools nationally and on the back of Tatler’s hot tip for Coombe Boys’ in January which also referenced the increase in the top grades at A*/A, Coombe continues to be recognised and praised for being at the forefront of academic excellence.
It is now a year since we were awarded National Teaching School status and this inaugural year has been an exciting one! The Kingston Teaching School Alliance (KTSA) has gone from strength to strength and we were very proud to be designated Specialist Partners in Initial Teacher Education and Research & Development with UCL/Institute of Education – testament to the amazing work that goes on in the Coombe schools and across the alliance in training new entrants to the profession and researching the very best educational practice to the benefits of all our pupils and students.
Once again, we have a very busy term ahead and we look forward to sharing our news with you via our twitter feeds and website news updates!
