London Challenge Year 10 Student Voice Event
Tuesday 8th November 2005
Year 10 students from Bishopsford Community School; Coombe Boys’ School; Coombe Girls’ School; Kings College, Wimbledon; Ursuline and Wimbledon High School have been involved in an event at Coombe Girls’ School to discuss “What makes a good lesson?”
Students from each school looked at different aspects of lessons and learning to examine what they felt helped them to learn the best. This culminated in a PowerPoint presentation to staff and the rest of the group, feeding back what they thought would help to improve students learning.
All schools involved are dedicated to raising achievement and recognise that one of the ways to identify strategies that support learning is to ask the students. The results of the day will be shown to staff and other students in all the schools.
The event was filmed by a professional film crew so that student’s ideas and presentations could be captured and used as a training material for teachers in all stages of their careers.
The Student Voice Event has come about due to our involvement with the London Challenge Independent/ State School Partnership where expertise is shared between different educational institutions from the two sectors. Students found that they had much in common and that the initiatives that they identified were relevant to all the schools. The next aspect of education that the London Challenge Partnership will look at is supporting Gifted and Talented students.
We would like to thank all the students involved who impressed staff from all the schools.
