Geography
GEOGRAPHY IS:
‘a study of both the physical (natural) and human (manmade) environments that exist on planet Earth. This study will focus upon the interrelationships between these two environments and how they will change (be that dependently
or independently of each other) over both time and space – the fundamental components of geographical thinking.’
What does studying Geography involve?
Geography allows a student to explore theoretical ideas and concepts such as, plate tectonics, and apply them to real life situations in an attempt to explain past events and prepare or prevent future natural disasters. When will the next super volcano erupt? Why is there a constant famine in parts of Africa? Can you work out a sustainable solution? Can you change the future of the Earth?
How will I know if I will be good at it?
True geographers have a love of the subject; they interact with their environment. They question; How does that work? How did that get like that? What are the human and physical impacts? Can I change what is going to happen? An inquiring mind is an asset to studying geography but so is a grade C and above at GCSE level as well as good English and Maths results.

What skills will I develop and where could this subject lead?
During the course you will learn such skills as; note taking, essay writing, statistical and presentation techniques, working in a team, decision-making and time management.
Geography taken to a further level of study will allow diversification and specialisation in new (coastal management) and established (vulcanology) areas. Geography is also an excellent subject that lends itself as a foundation for other areas of study; Civil Engineering, Economics, International Trade and the Retail Industry.
