Examination Board: OCR

Entry Requirements:

Students must have gained an A*, A or B grade at Higher Double or Separate award Science GCSE.

Teaching Arrangements:

Four double lessons a week split between two subject specialist teachers.

Assessment Procedures:

Both the AS and A2 courses are assessed by three modular examinations and practical coursework.

Content:

The course builds and extends GCSE biology knowledge and includes a variety of topics, such as cell structure; transmission of human disease; transport of water in plants, function of mitochondria; energy production in plants; structure of the skeleton and behaviour in mammals.

Students are expected to enhance their own knowledge and understanding through private study on all aspects of the course content.
