Sixth Form Entrance and EMA Criteria
Entitlement to free Post-16 education in schools: Criteria.
• All European nationals are eligible;
• To be eligible, non – EU nationals, passport must have an ‘Exceptional Leave’ stamp or their residency must be a condition of their father’s legal employment status – such as diplomatic responsibilities and so on.
• Student visas do not entitle non-EU nationals to free education in the UK. They cannot be educated in school sixth forms.
EMA criteria.
To be eligible:
• Claimants must be British citizens and have three years’ residency prior to claiming EMA, or:
• Claimants can be other EU citizens but must have three years’ residency prior to claiming EMA, or:
• Non – EU citizens must have either ‘Indefinite Leave to Remain’ or ‘Refugee Status’ clearly stamped in their passports.
• Note that ‘Exceptional Leave’ and ‘Discretionary Leave’ does not entitle students to claim EMA.
