Absence
To report absence from school please either phone or e-mail the school on cgs.absence@rbksch.org before 10am on the first day of absence.
The Daily Timetable
The daily timetable consists of five sixty minute lessons. Pupils may come into school from 8.00 am onwards, going straight to the Learning Resources Centre (LRC), Stage or Hall until 8.15am when they may move to Tutor Group rooms prior to Registration. Breakfast items are on sale in the canteen from 8.00 – 8.40 am each morning if pupils wish to buy them. Girls should leave the building by 3.40 pm unless they are studying in the LRC, involved in a Club, an activity or have a detention.

Homework
Your daughter will be set homework regularly. A copy of your daughters homework timetable can be found below. Please do contact us at school if you feel the homework given is either too much or not enough and we will be able to discuss the situation with your daughter and the staff if necessary. Your daughter's class and homework will be marked and assessed by your daughter's teachers in the best way for that subject.

Assessment
Pupils are assessed on National Curriculum criteria and are awarded levels which signify the level of knowledge, understanding and skills that the pupil currently possesses. Most levels are quite broad in their definition and to make it easier for pupils, parents and teachers to measure pupil progression we break each level into three smaller levels in the following manner:
For example,
Level 3 this indicates that level 3 has been achieved in all areas.
Level 3+ this indicates progress towards level 4.
Level 3++ this indicates that Level 4 has nearly been achieved.
Level 4 this indicates that Level 4 has been achieved in all areas of the subject.
Nationally pupils progress an average of one level every 18 months, although this progress might be slightly higher in subjects that pupils have not studied before. We therefore see the progression of two levels across Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9) as a target that pupil’s should set themselves.
Effort is reported on a 5 point scale:
A= Outstanding
B= Good
C= Satisfactory
D= Insufficient
E= Poor

Parents’ Evenings
As parents, you will be invited along with your daughter to meet your daughter’s teachers each year in order to discuss her current progress. The aim is to develop a partnership between teaching staff and parents that will provide the support necessary for each pupil to get the most from their educational opportunities.
In addition to this annual Parents’ Evening, there is an early opportunity in October for you to meet your daughter’s tutor to discuss how she has settled in and a Curriculum Evening in September which provides details about teaching and learning at Coombe and how you can help to support your daughter’s learning.
Year 9 Options & Parents' Evening is on 24th February 2010.
Academic Mentoring Days
Academic Mentoring Days take place twice a year, in the Autumn and Spring terms. Teachers record a currently working at (CWAT) level, an effort grade and a study skill for each pupil. The study skill is a target that pupils are expected to undertake in order to progress in each subject studied. Pupils have a meeting with their form tutor in order to discuss and review their progress to date. The form tutor will also set a pastoral target. The Academic Mentoring Day is an opportunity for the school to celebrate the achievements of each pupil and also to review avenues for progression. It is also an opportunity for pupils to discuss any issues within the school that affect them directly. Pupils will bring home a data sheet of currently working at levels and effort grades for parents, in addition to this there will also be study skills (targets) for each student to work towards in each subject.
Academic Mentoring Days are on 13th November 2009 and 11th March 2010.
School Uniform
We expect the girls to maintain a high standard of dress and appearance at all times. The uniform is listed below. Uniform should be complete, kept tidy and fresh. It is not possible to predict fashion trends and we do expect parents to support us by ensuring that the spirit of Coombe’s uniform code is upheld.
All garments which are worn to school must be clearly named. Watches should be engraved. All pupils should have a sturdy, waterproof bag – not a plastic carrier – which is suitable for carrying books and PE kit.
Parents are asked to co-operate with us by ensuring that the girls do not wear any make-up or jewellery except watches and one pair of small plain studs worn in the ear lobe. Girls should not have facial or tongue piercings.
For practical subjects, long hair should be tied back. Before pupils are allowed to take part in practical subjects, protective clothing is required. We expect hair not to be brightly coloured or worn in an extreme style.
NB: If your daughter wears trainers to school, she will be issued with a pair of plimsolls to wear for the day, unless she has a letter from your GP saying she has a medical issue.

JUMPER:Bottle green V neck with logo. No cardigans are allowed.
HOUSE PIN:Pin in House colour (Jupiter: yellow; Mars: red; Mercury: green; Neptune: blue; Pluto: purple; Saturn: orange; Venus: white)
SOCKS & TIGHTS:Plain black, white or grey, knee high socks, short socks or tights
SHOES:Black.1-1 ½ inch heel, not high platforms. Sensible style for school. NO TRAINERS OR BOOTS ARE TO BE WORN IN SCHOOL.
COAT:Plain black, dark grey, navy, brown or bottle green.

Valuables
The girls are responsible for their own belongings in school. If money is brought to school we strongly recommend that it is carried in a purse. Girls should only bring what they need for the day. If, for a special reason, a large amount has to be brought into school, it should be handed in to the Tutor, Head of Year or Office for safe-keeping. In general, valuable items should not be brought to school.
When pupils have PE lessons they should make certain that all valuables are secured in their lockers before the lesson. PE staff cannot take responsibility for purses or any other valuables. We encourage pupils not to leave valuables in the changing room during PE or extra-curricular clubs.
Mobile phones and personal audio equipment
While we understand that mobile phones may be seen as necessary for personal safety, we do not expect to see or hear phones or personal music systems whilst on school premises; if this happens they will be confiscated. During the school day pupils should keep these items in their lockers. We cannot take responsibility for them if they are lost or stolen.
We expect all students to be correctly dressed before they enter the building. Coats should be removed and stored in lockers during the day. Mobile phones and personal audio equipment, including headphones and earpieces should be turned off and placed inside school bags or lockers.
