RBK advice leaflet for year 7 parents

Departmental Information

Mathematics is taught by a team of 7 full time and 5 part time teachers who work closely together. Most members of the department teach across the full age and ability range.

The Mathematics department is mainly based in 9 rooms one of which is a resource centre for ICT in Maths. There is a computer room which can be booked for mathematics lessons. Each mathematics room has an Interactive Whiteboard and a supply of equipment, including calculators. All pupils are issued with a textbook.

Key Stage 3

These year groups are taught in half year blocks and they are set within these blocks. Pupils are moved between sets appropriately, according to their progress and balancing set numbers. Classroom support for some low attaining pupils is provided by members of the mathematics department and learning support assistants. There is an express class in years 7, 8 and 9 which is a whole school initiative to fast track able and gifted pupils.

Key Stage 4

Pupils in year 10 and 11 are arranged in 9 sets which cater for the different tiers of entry at both Edexcel Mathematics GCSE and Edexcel Statistics GCSE, including an early entry set.
