Departmental Information
KS3
At KS3 The Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) course has been designed to give pupils the skills and confidence to use ICT effectively. Each year includes objectives for the themes: finding things out; developing ideas and making things happen; exchanging and sharing information. Objectives for reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses are integrated throughout. In year 7 the course incorporates the introduction of a second Modern Foreign Language. An integrated project combined with the ongoing teacher assessment and the QCA online test will form the end of KS3 ICT national curriculum level.
KS4
At KS4 pupils have the option to study a GCSE in ICT. The ICT GCSE consists of 60% Coursework and 40% Examination Papers. In Year 10 students undertake the relevant theory and practical tasks in connection with the Core Areas of the Syllabus. As a result of this, each student is given the opportunity to build up an assessment profile which will over time reflect the paper level they will sit at the final Year 11 GCSE Examination in May. During the Summer term of Year 10 and Autumn term of Year 11 students’ carry out independent tasks which develop their Coursework portfolio in one of the given areas of the GCSE Syllabus. This Portfolio allows them to analyse, design, implement and test a System.
