History
Departmental Information
History at Coombe is an active and vibrant journey through the past.
At Key stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) we study the progression from medieval to modern.
Through the Edexcel GCSE we explore the dawn of the modern Welfare State, as well as Germany and the 2nd World War.
Throughout Key Stage 3 and indeed right the way through to A level there are 5 core skills which we will be teaching in History. These are:
• Knowledge & Understanding key events and themes in History.
• Interpretation: that is understanding that history is not all about facts but rather a reflection of the views of the people involved in these events and the historians who have written about them.
• Evidence Analysis: pupils will be taught how to analyse source based material from a range of perspectives.
• Chronology: pupils will be taught how to compare and contrast different periods of time in History.
• Communication & Organisation: pupils will be taught how to communicate their ideas in range of different ways and in an organised and rational manner.
