One to One Reading Scheme
Year 7 students involved in Foundation and Progress units have the opportunity to work with a Year 12 student through the English department’s One to One Reading Scheme. This is an opportunity for a reading programme to take place whereby the sixth former will mentor or ‘buddy’ the Year 7 by listening to them read and sharing their response to reading. This will be managed by an English teacher.
Regular reading increases a student’s vocabulary, which in turn increases their ability to understand and discuss ideas. It is useful to help your child build their skills by regularly listening to them read at home, and taking an active interest in their reading.
