Coombe Girl’s School Celebrates with Royalty
Coombe Girls’ School on Tuesday (20th September) celebrated the opening of its new Sports hall and Performing Arts Centre. It is officially Coombe Girls’ 50th Year and these facilities are an amazing present to the school.
HRH Princess Alexandra officially opened the new facilities and was then treated to a colourful pageant performed by Coombe Girls’ that shows off the diversity of subjects and extra curricular activities studied at Coombe, including music, sport, singing and drama.
Joanna Nesaraja a Year 9 pupil at Coombe and who also took part in the pageant stated, ‘The facilities are definitely a new improvement. It is lovely to see the community involved in the school. Also Princess Alexandra looked lovely, with a marvellous hat’.
To mark this event Coombe also organised a reunion for Old Coombe Girls’ coming back to the school. Over a 100 past pupils attended the event and were treated to tours around the school ground.
These amazing facilities which cost around £1.5 million pounds to build were only possible through collaboration with Grove Medical Centre which now has their surgeries on the school grounds. Coombe Girls’ School see this as an excellent opportunity for the Medical Centre and the school to work in collaboration to show the community working together. This is a further example of Coombe Girls’ Leading Edge Activities along with continuing collaboration work with the new Coombe Boys’ School in 2006.
Headteacher Carol Campbell is looking forward to the opportunities these facilities will bring ‘this is a fantastic event not just for the school but for the local community and we are looking forward not only to using the new facilities but also to working with our colleagues in health’.
This event also marked the launch of Coombe Girls’ Schools website at www.coombegirlsschool.org. This new facility will help pupils and current and prospective parents as they will be able to access the prospectus, subject information and much more.
