Enterprise Week

On Monday 25th June, Year 9 at Coombe Girls’ School embarked on their annual ‘Enterprise Week’. The week long project was launched on Monday morning by an inspirational speech from Susan Kramer MP about women entering industry and creating their own businesses. The project was organised by Michael Carragher, Head of Business Studies, and the overall success of the event was mainly thanks to his organisation and team of dedicated staff. When asked, he said: ’It has been an exhausting and rewarding week for all involved, the entrepreneurial skills of the girls were truly amazing, I can’t wait for next year!’

The week involved the girls working in business teams of 6 to design, make and sell their own products; from cookies to cushions. It culminated in an evening sale, attended by parents and the Deputy Mayor Cllr Bart Ricketts who was extremely impressed by the girls’ hard work. The Deputy Mayor returned the next day to issue the prizes to the best groups:
Best Company- ‘Brownie Bakers’
Most Profit- ‘Cookie Crew’
Best Product- ‘Assorted’
Best Business Plan- ‘Frenchies’
Best Teamwork- ‘Little Miss Sashes’
Best Stall- ‘Stelf Accessories’
One group made a profit of over £180.00! Fifteen percent of which will be donated to charity. All in all the girls felt they learnt a great deal about business. Who knows, there may be a future Anita Roddick amongst them.
