Coombe Girls’ School Celebrates Creativity and Innovation at Summer Show
Coombe Girls’ school celebrated the array of artistic talent within the Sixth Form on Thursday 14th June 2007 with an exhibition and awards ceremony presented by the Major of Kingston Shiraz Mirza.
The evening was a great success and was well attended by students, teachers, parents and guests. During the evening people had the opportunity to view the achievements of the young designers and artists of tomorrow. The diversity of the exhibition surprised many people as it included costume design, art, photography, media, product design and many more. People had the opportunity to talk to the artists and if they found a piece of art that they liked an offer could be placed to buy it!
The Mayor handed out over 20 awards on the night and commented on the outstanding quality of the work in the show ‘I am delighted to be here to view such a high calibre of work and to be able to share the platform with so many talented young people’. The Mayor was also presented with a piece of framed artwork by A’ level art student Wanjiru Gatabaki.
Mr Keeble and Ms Elmore Heads of Art stated, ‘We were really impressed with the standard and quality this year. The students surpassed all expectations.’
Basma Masti won best in show for Year 13 and is going the Central St. Martins to do a Foundation Course, she has also been chosen for a series on Sky One about young designers.
Jo Alexander won best in show for Year 12 for her mixed media exhibition based on architecture and her imaginative coursework submission.
