Coombes Girls School

A-Level Maths Transition Conference

Coombe Girls’ School was host to an A-Level maths transition conference on Saturday 9th September.

The 4 hour course was attended by Year 12 students from across Coombe Sixth Form, Teddington School, Hinchley Wood, Southborough High and Saint Francis Xavier College.

Together with staff from other schools, Mrs Harding, led the students through a range of activities. Activities included a carousel of 30 minute lessons on key higher grade topics from GCSE maths that are essential in A Level Maths and a relay race of exam style questions in which each team of three students competed against one another to answer as many correctly as possible in 25 minutes. Three Coombe Sixth Form students and one student from Saint Francis Xavier won the relay. The hard work of the morning was then rewarded with much appreciated pizza for lunch.

Mrs Harding has expressed how happy she was to see so many students from Coombe Sixth Form and the other schools who were keen to spend their time on Saturday recapping maths and giving themselves a firm foundation as they embark upon their A-Level Maths studies.

Student Voice:

“I feel a lot more confident going into A Levels.”
“It allowed me to recap the fundamentals.”
