A course based on this specification should encourage candidates to
a. develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of Russian in a range of contexts;
b. develop the ability to communicate effectively in Russian, through both the spoken and written word, using a range of vocabulary and structures;
c. develop knowledge and understanding of the grammar of Russian, and the ability to apply it;
d. apply their knowledge and understanding in a variety of relevant contexts which reflect their previous learning and maturity;
e. develop knowledge and understanding of countries and communities where Russian is spoken;
f. develop positive attitudes to Russian learning;
g. provide a suitable foundation for further study and/or practical use of Russian.

Listening Test 25% of total marks
45 mins (+5 mins reading time) Non verbal, short answer questions and some longer answer questions
Reading Test 25% of total marks

Writing Test 25% of total marks
1 hour 20 minsA short list, a message, a letter and a descriptive/imaginative piece
Speaking Test 25% of total marks
10-12 mins A role play, a presentation/discussion and a general conversation
