Language College
About Us

Nicholas Power (Assistant Headteacher in charge of the Language Specialist School)
In September 2002, Coombe Girls School gained Language College status. An already vibrant modern languages department of 14 staff and 3 foreign language assistants has seen a full refurbishment of the suite of Language classrooms fully equipped with interactive whiteboards and a multimedia language lab.
The department has helped the school develop links with the community through work with Malden Oaks and Mecklenburg Pupil referral units in the borough.
French, Spanish and German is taught to pupils from years 4-6 in over 8 local primary schools and a very exciting KS2 MFL pilot has been launched in September 2005. This pilot in association with the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames will see the development and training of primary school teachers in MFL. Click here for further details and resources.
Adult classes for beginners French and Spanish are well attended, any potential linguists should contact Glynis Pardy for further information.
There is a wide variety of languages offered at Coombe Girls School. French, German and Spanish are taught through the curriculum and a variety of languages are offered in lunchtime and after school clubs including Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Latin, Korean and Urdu. The school also acts as an external centre for additional home languages and have had students passing GCSE, AS and A levels in languages from Armenian and Polish to Russian, Turkish and Thai.
