Award-winning Children’s Author Visits Coombe Girls’ School
Award-winning children’s author Kevin Brooks paid a special visit to Coombe girls’ School on Monday 14th November where he was presented with the 2005 Kingston Libraries Youth Book Award.
Kevin talked to a group of students from Coombe Boys’ and Girls’ school about his successful book, Lucas, described by the Guardian as “a particularly moving and unusual love story”. The students asked him an array of questions about his writing style and success.
Lucas was voted as the most popular teenage read of 2005 by Kingston’s young people. Students also found out how they could be involved in next year’s Youth Book Award.
Kevin Brooks commented about the award saying: “It means an awful lot to me winning a prize and it is a big thrill especially because this has been voted for by the kids. I adore writing for this age group because they are not narrow minded – and when they like a book they really like it.”
