These two courses, taught simultaneously, encompass the study of modern and classical literature, analysis of media texts and encourage lively mind-developing discussions.


As well as having opportunities for personal writing, you will read a Shakespeare play, some modern drama, a range of prose, and study a very varied selection of poetry. Oral work is an important element of the course, and a significant proportion of your final mark comes from this.

You will gain two GCSEs, English Language and English Literature, helped by a very experienced department with considerable success in ensuring that students achieve their best.

Assessment:

All spoken and written coursework is assessed under controlled conditions in class time.
