A Level Success

I am delighted to be able to report that Coombe Sixth Form has today celebrated excellent 2011 examination results. I am very proud of the successes of all of our students at A2, AS and in the advanced vocational courses.  Congratulations to you all!

In particular, in such a critical year for university places and clearing nationally, it is great to see that so many final year Coombe Sixth Form students have been able to secure their future career paths through these impressive results.  The results have improved on last year’s and show that our rigorous approach to preparing students for the new challenges of securing a university education is the right one.

Almost 50% of our students achieved grades A*, A or B at A level, a 7% increase on last year, with 71% of entries scoring A* - C grades.  This significant increase in the highest achievement means that these represent our best ever A Level results with a pass rate of 98.6%.  The results of the advanced vocational courses have also increased at the higher level with 42% of the cohort achieving a Distinction, the equivalent to 2 A grades at A2 level, and an overall pass rate of 100%.

I am very pleased that the students at the Coombe Sixth Form are doing so well in all areas but in particular, our success in Science and Maths is very encouraging in view of the country’s need for experts in these areas. I truly believe that the Maths and Computing Specialist School status of Coombe Boys’ School in recent years has made a real difference here and it means many students can now go on to study Mathematics and Science at Oxbridge and the top Russell Group universities.

The Federation mission statement is:  Preparing you for a world of opportunity.  These impressive 2011 results show the Sixth Form does just that.   We are now expecting and looking forward to two busy days of enrolment into Coombe Sixth Form next Thursday and Friday once the GCSE results have been published
