The Witches by Roald Dahl
Adapted for the stage by David Wood

Coombe Girls’ School have brought to life Roald Dahl’s gruesome and thrilling book ‘The Witches’ adapted for the stage by David Wood. The pupils are performing for two nights to sold out audiences, and are wearing purple wigs, bald caps and gloves to make the most convincing witches.

Eighty students have merged together and spent the last two months rehearsing to create a scintillating stage show full of dark and entertaining magic. Performing on an enchanting set the students have managed to transform themselves into bald, cruel and scheming witches who try to hunt down children with the temptation of sweets. However, these sweets will turn the children and anyone who gets in their way into mice! The witches scheme would of succeeded except for the efforts of a fast thinking boy and his Grandmother who put a stop to their plans, but only after the boy himself is transformed into a mouse.

A member of the audience stated, ‘It was an amazing performance and you could tell the pupils had worked extremely hard. The witches were very convincing and in parts very scary!’
