Coombe Joins Save the Children ‘Rewrite the Future’ Campaign

On Tuesday 12th September pupils from Coombe Girls’ School joined in the launch of the new ‘Save the Children’ campaign ‘Rewrite the Future’.

Pupils from Year 7,8, and 9 took part in a workshop run by Kate Turner from ‘Save the Children’ to highlight that over a hundred million children across the world are missing out on school, and nearly half of them live in countries affected by armed conflict. Pupils where asked to write a message to their local MP on the issue urging the Government to help all children around the world to get an education.

Also helping with the launch of this campaign was the Mayor of Kingston Mary Reid. She was passionate about the cause, ‘The Save the Children project strikes so many cords with the pupils and this helps them to relate to their peers in other countries and understand the plight that they are in’.

Pupils from Year 9 where enthusiastic to send a message to their MP, one stated ‘Every child in the world has a right to an education whether their country is at war or not and by joining Rewrite the Future we can do our bit to help’.

It is not just school pupils in Britain that have joined this campaign but people from around the world like Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Penelope Cruz, Susan Sarandon and Eva Longoria.

If you would like to get involved in this campaign and help children in conflict-affected countries get an education go to www.savethechildren.net/rewritethefuture and sign your name on the virtual blackboard.
