Welcome to the Governors’ pages
We invite you to take a moment to see what the role of a Governor is at Coombe Boys’ and Coombe Girls’ schools. We are made up of 22 volunteers from all sections of the community, including parents of students in the schools. As the schools are joined in a federation there is one governing body covering both schools. Both schools became academies on 1st February 2012 but the role of the Governing Body remains the same.
We support the schools’ professional staff in promoting high standards of educational achievement, promoting and securing the welfare of pupils at school, and monitoring and keeping under review the schools’ aims and objectives, policies and targets. We fulfil strategic, accountability and critical friend roles. We are here to ask questions which are probing but hopefully not too confrontational and to work together with the Head Teacher and her staff. We are not involved in the day to day running of the school which is the responsibility of the Head Teacher and her senior teams.
The full Governing Body of Coombe Secondary Schools meets once a term. We operate throughout the school year with a clear scheme of delegation to committees.
Parent governors participate in the meetings of the Governing Body and are active in its committees, including those that address matters related to finance and staffing, the curriculum, student welfare and health and safety. Minutes for all committee meetings are available on request from the school office.
