Enterprise Week 2012

Enterprise Week is an exciting opportunity for Year 9 students to create their own company and sell products which they have designed and made. The week gives the girls the opportunity to enjoy the independence of making their own decisions and learn the basic skills behind production, sales and marketing. The girls select their own groups and which products they will sell is decided on by a ‘Dragons Den’ panel of judges following a vigorous grilling.

The girls will be given £15:00 each to help start them off but this will be paid back from their profits with a percentage going to charity.  There is an opportunity for parents to buy on Thursday 21st June at the Enterprise Fair held in the school hall. We hope you will join us then in helping to make the week a success.

What's on sale?

The last day of selling saw sales climb for many of our aspirational enterprises, leading to the most successful Enterprise Fair yet. Parents, teachers and pupils had enthusiastically jumped at the chance to buy a range of gifts and tasty treats prepared and created by Coombe's Year 9s over the three days of selling. Friday saw an excellent Drama based activity brought to us by the Drama department, with a highly entertaining presentation by a visting Theatre Company on the Enterprise theme, which saw many students take the risk and get up on stage to show off their newly gained knowledge. Even the teachers got involved, and we all left the hall reenergised and anticipating the awards at the end of the day.

While staff made these difficult decisions, the students participated in a variety of activities aimed at clarifying the lessons of Enterprise Week. And all that is left to say is congratulations not just to the prizewinnerd, but to all the girls on a fantastic week!

Day 3 sees most of our budding entrepreneurs really getting into the thick of it. Our market place looks great with brightly coloured banners and an amazing variety of products for sale. The individual blogs for each group on Fronter (click on DT in the Entrance Hall icon) show the ups and downs of running an enterprise, as new opportunities are unearthed and unexpected pitfalls set even more challenges. Generally Year 9 have kept their spirits up and have all contributed to the success of the week so far. So it's time for all of our supporters to reach for purses and wallets again and enjoy another fun day of shopping at Coombe Girls.

We look forward to seeing as many parents, teachers and pupils as possible at the Enterprise Fair in the hall on Thursday afternoon from 5.00-6.30pm!

Things are hotting up as our 35 companies gear up for the lunchtime market place in the hall and on the lawns. Production is in full swing and some frantic problem solving is helping the girls improve a host of different skills. Individuals are finding their niche in the team as the stall banners come together with logos, prices and an range of promises and offers. It is sunny outside which adds to the expectation, and sales at break are clearly showing who has got it right and who has some more thinking to do. It all starts coming together as the lunch bell chimes and the first year 7's and 8's noisily start to make their way around the stalls. Some teams are really making an impact with branded t-shirts and excellent pricing and merchandising.

Period 5 and it is time to count the days takings and prepare for Day 3

Enterprise week is off to an exciting start as the groups find out how they work together and solve problems to become more successful. Teamwork is a big focus as always, with stuff like being considerate, positive and listening to other ideas already proving to be the keys to success in the groups that are doing really well.

Look out on Tuesday for a whole range of exciting products to buy as we move into the first day of selling. All groups will set up stalls at lunchtime so please get your purses and wallets out and support the fantastic work of our Year 9s! Look out for contributions from pupils on this page and the blogs on fronter.
