School Production: 'The Demon Headteacher' Review:
BLEAK SOULS ARE HAPPY SOULS!!!
Last week the West End came to New Malden as the cast of Coombe Girls performed the play ‘The Demon Headteacher’ by Gillian Cross.
It was a spectacular evening enjoyed by many, as there were amazing performances from all. The play is based around a Headteacher who hypnotises her students at the Bleak Souls School. She plans with the help of her menacing prefects to take over the world. That is until new girl Dinah joins, who starts to change things for the better, with the help of her new friends, who are all members of SPLAT
(Society for the Protection of our Lives Against Them)!
The Demon Headteacher was played by Kate Graves who gave a chilling performance and left us all grateful for Mrs Campbell! Her prefects were played by Emily Scott, Emma Askew, Diana Simango, Louise Dowds and Gaby Corry-Mead. Dinah was performed by Ellen Fraser who played the part with great confidence and she was supported well by the members of SPLAT, played by Natalie Davies, Bernadette Hanlon, Poppy Greenhill, Hannah King and Nia Walters. Tia Richards also gave a wonderful performance as Ms Wilberforce and her welsh accent left us all believing she came from the valleys! Malory Torr also gave a very funny and hilarious performance of Edina Hair which also involved throwing a few custard pies! The Bleak Souls were also outstanding and there presence on stage left the audience wanting for more. Mrs Hunter was played by myself (Lydia Kane) and it was certainly a personal challenge to be a mother figure to girls in Year 10, a year older and a lot taller than me!
On behalf of the cast, I would like to thank Ms Borra, Ms Bates, Ms Corless, Ms Keevil and Ms Tiltman for all their hard work and for the time that they have given to making ‘The Demon Headteacher’ such a successful experience for all.
