On Friday 29th February and 7th March, our Year 7s were led through strategic workshops on how to build a shelter with only a selection of sticks and rubber bands!

After an hour and a half of careful planning, teamwork and problem solving, students were able to revel in the huge structures built – enough to accommodate up to 5 students!

Throughout these sessions, students were made aware of environmental requirements regarding sustainable development.

Here’s what our students felt about this valuable event:

Anna Cole:
“It is nice to get fully involved in activities for it is different to our usual surroundings. I think that I and many others would like to have days like this more often as they are so enjoyable!”

Sabrina McClune:
“I really enjoyed the morning’s activities because it taught me how to build structures out of wood and it gave me some experience. I think future year 7’s would enjoy it as well!

Nuha Bazeer:
“I really think that the workshop broadened our ideas on teamwork, ability and planning skills. Though the thought seems distant, we could find the need to one day build structures similar to those that we were taught on the day. I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and would love to experience something similar yet more challenging”

Perdita Carter-Rowe:
“In year 7 we don’t have many learning to learn days but I have to say that was the best so far. Plus our stick shelter won the 1st place prize because ours was unique as it was low so the wind would just go straight over it.”
