Coombe Girls’ Celebrates its 51st Birthday
Coombe Girls’ School marked its 51st Birthday on Thursday 23rd September by celebrating its multicultural community and by raising money for Breast Cancer.
Pupils baked an array of different cakes to show the multicultural community of the school and New Malden. Over 50 cakes were brought in showing the different races, religion, languages and countries pupils come from. The cake competition was judged by Dianne Finnimore, the Bursar at Coombe, who has had her own fight with breast cancer. The winner was Elizabeth Lines from Year 7, her entry showed how Coombe Girls’ School is made up of all different cultures but that all the pupils belong to one community.
The cakes were then all sold off at break time to raise money for Breast Cancer which has been supported by Coombe Girls’ School for many years.
The school continued its celebrations by holding a mufti day where pupils had to wear an item of pink clothing to show their support for the Breast Cancer charity. Coombe Girls’ rose over £600 for this worthy cause.
Assistant Head, Sue Warne, stated ‘It’s very important for pupils to embrace the multicultural environment of their community as it helps pupils to become good citizens. It is also wonderful to see pupils get behind such a worthwhile cause as raising money to fight against Breast Cancer’.
